Juliet Margreta Weeks Landrum, 95, of Birmingham, Alabama was Called Home to Glory on June 6, 2011.
Juliet is survived by her husband of 61 years, Porter Landrum Jr., her son, Porter Landrum III, her brother, William Weeks of Merritt Island, Florida, two daughters-in-law, Jan Landrum of Homewood, and Darla Dowden of Houston, Texas, and one granddaughter, Laurel Anne "Annie" Landrum of Homewood.
Juliet graduated Summa Cum Laude ("With Highest Honor") from The University of Alabama, where she earned a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in English, and a Minor in Latin. She was a school teacher for over 50 years, having taught at the University of Alabama, Howard College (now Samford University), Indian Springs School, during the time it was academically one of the top ten High schools in America, (She was the only female on the faculty), and Southminster Day School in Vestavia.
She touched the lives of thousands of young people during her five-decade career, and often her past students would visit her at home, to introduce their children to her, and even their grandchildren.
Yes, that is a grand career!
Juliet also taught Sunday School and Bible Study for 77 years, starting at age 17, all the way through December of last year. The last 30+ years were spent with her beloved "Seekers Class" at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood. She drove herself to church every Sunday, up until January of this year.
Juliet will be remembered as a loving, caring, sweet, compassionate, self-less, brilliant, educated, articulate and supremely hilarious individual. Her quick wit would always bring a smile, and often, when telling a funny story, she would get so tickled that she couldn't speak...and by then, everyone in the room would be laughing so hard that they couldn't speak either. Those moments were so special, and they were also memorable and marvelous. She laughed often, and with great gusto. Her laughter was instantly recognizable, and was "music" to everyone who knew her and loved her.
If ever a person could be defined as the human definition of being "Christ-like" while on this earth, that person would be Juliet Landrum.
Per her wishes, there will be no formal funeral. She made it very clear that she wanted none of the "Fuss and Fol-De-Rol" of a formal funeral. (Doesn't that sound just like her?) Nor did she want a formal memorial service. She often said, "I don't want my friends to sit around and be SAD because I'm GONE! I want them to be happy because I've been PROMOTED to HEAVEN!"

Undoubtedly, when Juliet entered the Kingdom and met Jesus, surely His first words to her were: "Well done, good and faithful servant."
We should all aspire to a life so well-lived!
We will miss you so much Mom, but we WILL get to see you again when we are also "Called Home To Glory" (her words).
